A small but vitally important element of the $355 million redevelopment of the Adelaide Oval was recognised for construction engineering excellence in the 2013 CCF National Earth Awards.
McMahon Services proudly represented South Australia at the awards ceremony taking out Category Two – civil projects valued between $1 million and $5 million.
Prior to the National Awards, the Civil Division was honoured with the State award for the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment project – detailed civil works and stormwater package.
In a challenging category, McMahon Services propelled South Australia’s construction industry onto the national stage, with eight other interstate candidates up for the prestigious award.
After deconstructing the former grandstands to ground level and recovering all salvage items in just 18 days, McMahon Services then delivered the $2.1 million civil works contract including storm water installation together with substructure and detailed excavation. The team installed more than 1500 metres of pipe, including 90 pits and excavated more than 1300 cubic metres of material.
McMahon Services was required to supply and install an 825mm diameter RCP storm water drainage system across War Memorial Drive, through the adjacent grassed embankment and into the river Torrens. The system was designed to capture storm water runoff from the oval and discharge it into the river.
Divisional Manager for Civil / Remediation, Mehdi Javanmard, was thrilled with the result and praised his team for a job well done – “All credit goes to my team for their hard work over the 17 months on site.
“This award goes a long way in demonstrating our can-do attitude and our strong commitment to finding innovative alternatives for our clients” he said.
