McMahon Services is a leading privately-owned industrial and environmental services provider operating across New Zealand and Australia.

Established in 1990 by brothers David and Andrew McMahon, the business has grown from an Adelaide-based company into an award-winning contractor across the Australia Pacific Region.

With 14 offices and workshops across New Zealand and Australia, we employ over 900 staff delivering projects in capital cities, rural townships, isolated islands and in remote locations.

The opportunity to expand our growing operations in New Zealand began in 2017, when McMahon Services were approached to provide asbestos remediation solutions for contaminated historical vehicles, at Auckland’s Museum of Technology and Transport (MOTAT).

The project gathered local interest and soon McMahon Services were approached by various consulting firms with an interest in servicing the growing remediation marketing utilising McMahon Services as an industry partner.

Our contributions to the local asbestos industry have already been recognised by New Zealand Demolition and Asbestos Association (NZDAA). During the 2018 Demolition and Asbestos Awards McMahon Services was presented with an award for the category ‘Asbestos or Demolition Best Practice Project under $1 million’, for the Auckland Museum of Technology and Transport (MOTAT) project.

From our head office in Auckland and our regional offices as well as support from our parent company McMahon Services Australia, we deliver projects anywhere throughout the North and South Islands.

Our New Zealand Team

Our Auckland operations are managed by three veterans of the asbestos and roofing and cladding industries, and one new employee who has 25 years’ experience in the commercial and residential property industries.

John Flavel is our New Zealand National Manager bringing over 30 years of experience in the construction, asbestos and waste remediation industries to the role. Since 1993 John has overseen the Asbestos Removal and Hazardous Waste Division of McMahon Services, delivering hazardous material abatement services for Federal and State Government and clients in the health, industrial, commercial, Defence and mining sectors, in all states and territories of Australia and on remote island nations across the Pacific Ocean.

Tony Woods, Construction Manager for McMahon Services’ Asbestos and Hazardous Waste division has relocated on a temporary basis to Auckland to establish the office and take on a business development role locally. Tony brings his extensive Australian experience in asbestos removal and abatement works to the New Zealand market.

Supporting Tony is Robert Tester, with over 45 years of experience in the asbestos remediation, building and roofing industries. Transitioning from his role as Roofing and Cladding Manager in South Australia – where Robert has delivered more than a quarter of a million square meters of roofing — Robert has taken up an operational role across New Zealand.

Tim Boys, a New Zealand local, has more than 25 years’ professional experience in the commercial and residential property industries. Tim is an experienced Senior Project Manager, with experience in the design and management of demolition and remediation projects. With proven success in meeting strategic deadlines, team leadership and motivation, operational planning, assessment and analysis reporting he brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.

Today we employ over 15 full time people in New Zealand, supported by over 80 specialist professionals from our Head Office.

Plant and Equipment

Our in-house skilled and experienced personnel are supported by a significant fleet of plant, equipment, workshops and warehouses which allows us to self-perform the vast majority of works.

We invest heavily in new technologies and boast an $80 million network of company-owned plant and equipment. Major plant items comprise of dozers, excavators, graders, rollers, loaders, dump trucks, batching plants, service trucks, water trucks, soil blending machines, prime movers, hook lift bin trucks, low loaders, semi tippers and cranes.

Project Delivery

Through our multi-disciplinary, multi-tiered approach, we have successfully delivered some of region’s largest, most complex and toughest construction projects with a combined value in excess of $3.0 billion.

Our work spans high-volume small-scale projects to complex multi-million-dollar projects sometimes managed over disperse geographical areas. We develop long-term collaborative relationships with clients, with more than half our work being for repeat clients across all industries.

Across all projects and service lines, all projects operate under a single McMahon Services management system.

This system is certified to the Federal Safety Commission Scheme, AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System and ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System. This ensures a consistent and streamlined project management approach.
