In 1990 David started McMahon Services as an asbestos and demolition company.

Operations commenced in South Australia and over time expanded nationally and diversified into many sectors including civil, building and process construction, scaffolding, environmental remediation, marine services, recycling and waste management, hazardous waste and industrial services.

David has been the driving force behind the respected professional position McMahon Services hold today servicing clients in multiple sectors including defence, oil and gas, mining, power, commercial, industrial, water, education, health, government, marine and transport. Today the company is truly international with over 680 employees, $80 million in plant and equipment assets, over $3 billion in delivered works and operations across Australia and New Zealand.

Under David’s direction McMahon Services has gained third-party accreditations to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management Systems), AS/NZS ISO 14001: 2004 (Environmental Management Systems), AS/NZS 4801:2001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems) and the Federal Safety Commission, which covers all activities undertaken by McMahon Services.

David brings hands-on leadership to the company and is consistently active in ongoing company and project operations. He drives strategic growth and expansion into new service areas. He is people focused fostering a company culture where our people are central to what we do.

David was one of the front-runners in establishing the procedures and techniques for the safe removal of asbestos in buildings, working in close liaison with the South Australian Department of Labour. He also over spent two years as the employer representative on the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission Standards Development Standing Committee.

In 2011 David sat as President of the Master Builders Association of South Australia, the peak body representing all sectors of the building and construction industry.

In November 2011 David was also honoured as winner of the Services Category at the National Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
