Asbestos / Demolition Project Managers

Due to further expansion of our New Zealand division, we are seeking exceptional Project Managers to join our Demolition and Asbestos teams.

Your main responsibilities will be to provide project leadership and contract management for allocated projects, ensuring project delivery to a high standard, on time, on budget, and in compliance with all relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and review progress reports and make staffing/resourcing, financial, schedule, or other adjustments to align the developing project with broader outcome goals
  • Recommend, and where agreed, implement business process improvements
  • Work collaboratively with Management in providing ‘best for business’ solutions to project issues
  • Optimise and improve processes and the overall approach where necessary
  • Apply relevant McMahon Services systems and procedures and approve new site procedures/ instructions where necessary
  • Review the effectiveness of the subcontractors and direct improvements as required
  • Drive and support contracts management
  • Manage contractors and other project vendors and services suppliers
  • Prepare RFI, Notices of Delay, variations and EOT submissions
  • Undertake fair and effective negotiations with clients as required
  • Prepare Progress Claims to ensure claims are submitted in accordance with individual project contractual Terms & Conditions
  • Request and prepare Subcontract Agreements, within company delegations
  • Review and approve supplier/subcontractor invoices, including capturing retention to be held
  • Manage/review retention releases
  • Oversee review process to ensure Subcontractor compliance e.g., having appropriate licenses, insurances etc. prior to starting works
  • Ensure warranty and dispute claims for the project are addressed as soon as practical.
  • Ensure legislative and regulatory compliance
  • Perform a “hands on” approach in leading and managing the project team (including resource availability and allocation) for the effective project delivery to plan, budget and HSE outcomes
  • Conduct project review and creating detailed reports for executive staff
  • Conduct effective delegation of responsibilities to provide visibility on roles
  • Apply analytic ability in cost control against budget, monitoring productivities against project plan, and reliably forecasting costs to complete
  • Review reports provided by finance for accuracy
  • Ensure systems, processes and project tools are in place to identify significant project delivery risks, and that appropriate risk mitigation measures are implemented
  • Design and implement risk mitigation plan
  • Ensure that safety meetings are held and the site supervisors are managing site safety via auditing
  • Ensure regular inspections of tools and equipment are implemented on-site using Project Quality Audit forms
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance) and report regularly on project status
  • Monitor the application and management of any Industrial relations requirements, ensure site compliance
  • Managing and maintaining strong contractor and client relationships. Effectively undertaking this task is a critical success factor for this role

Qualification and Experience:

To be successful in this role you must possess the following:

  • Formal or informal Education in Project Management
  • Ideally formal or informal Education in Engineering, Finance, or Management
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in major project delivery preferably in the Asbestos and Demolition industries
  • Experience in Contracts administration and management
  • Experience in managing project scheduling and cost/cash flow management
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise mature judgement, as demonstrated throughout previous work experience
  • Proficient in project management suite of software (e.g., Microsoft professional suite, MS Project, Primavera), ERP systems (e.g., Pronto, SAP, Oracle e-business) and project management platforms (e.g., Aconex, Procore)
  • Strong safety focus and knowledge
  • Team player, flexible and adaptable to changing needs and demands
  • Persistent, motivated and driven, good time management and adherence to agreed costs, schedules and timeframes
